In 2007, SPT were contracted to build a sea salt manufacturing plant for the Cornish Sea Salt Company. This involved supplying all design, equipment, installation and start-up requirements for a brand new business venture for the production of sea salt using Cornwall’s own sea water.
Through a long development process SPT designed and built a plant that utilised a brine method more commonly found in Asia. By doing so, Cornish Sea Salt Co became the first company in Europe to use this technology which offered major cost savings on utilities. SPT also provided all the ancillary equipment for the sea water take off and filtering systems right up to the final salt pan production pans. The resulting salt can now be found in various supermarkets and specialist food stores throughout the world.
“In January 2008 Cornish Sea Salt started trading and was soon making waves in the culinary world. Cornish Sea Salt is now stocked by supermarkets and independent stores alike and appears on the tables of some top restaurants and hotels. Chefs, including James Martin, Hugh Fearnly-Whittingstall and Nathan Outlaw love the unique flavour and texture of Cornish Sea Salt, and food producers are using the salt in all sorts of products, from Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Farmhouse Butter to Rick Stein’s Savoury Oat Biscuits.”
